Blessings......Aashirwaad....Best wishes....First wishes.....duaayein....!!!! Such a huge variety we have!!! Available in different languages, different lengths and for a wide range of occasions...!!! Some are simple ones; some complicated and over ambitious ones. Let us have a look at some of the popular ones and find out which wishes are wishful......!!!!!
A popular Hindi Aashirwaad- Doodho nahaao, pooto phalo...!!! Means- May you bathe in milk and may you have lots and lots of sons....!!! Now tell me- jab paani se nahaana hi logon ko naseeb nahi hota, where will they find milk to have bath..???? Aur aaj ki is badhti mahangaayi and 'Population Explosion era' mein aisa aashirwaad boon nahi bane hai...!!!!
Another similar blessing, given to new daughters- in-law- Saubhaagyawati bhava...!! Shataputravati Bhava...!!! This is heights....!!! Not every parent has a Empire like Hastinapur which can afford bringing up 100 sons!!!! Another noteworthy point is - "Putravati Bhava" Why not Putri..??? Why this discrimination..?? Are sons the only harbingers of the society..??? Needless to say, in today's era, there are end number of examples which have proved and are proving time and again that daughters are better than sons...!!I don't have any enmity with sons. My only point is - Why discriminate..??? Let God bless us with whaever he feels is the best for us..!!!! I feel this aashirwaad should be reframed as- Saubhaagyawati bhava!!! Ek/ Dwi ( one/two)- santaanvati bhava..!! more feasible, economical, family- fulfilling and gender- bias free....!! What say..???
With due respects to all languages, I feel that English wishes are simple and less complicated than their Hindi or Regional counterparts. They are so haze- free..!!! Most simple, "One size fits all" kinda evergreen blessing- May god bless you..!!!!! So much said in so less words...!!! Har occasion, har situation, har emotion, har problem, har solution, har confusion mein- (in short) har jagah fit ho jata hai..:-) !! Hindi verson of this blessing is also available- Bhagwaan aapka bhalaa kare... But the English version is more unanimously accepted as a blessing..!!
Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, good night have become regulars. Another popular english wish is- All The Best/ Best of luck....!! Reminds us of our exam/ result days, though the use is not limited to the student population. It reduces tension if student is well prepared for the exam. All the best becomes even more important when the 'So called exam going student' has flipped the pages of his books (for the first time) just a week before the exams begin. 'Bhagwaan aapka bhala karein' is a more appropriate wish in such situation....!!!!!!
Occasional wishes are many......like Happy birthday, happy anniversary, Happy new year etc. Then there are those which rekindle the festive spirits - Happy Diwali, Happy Dussehra, Happy Navratri, Id Mubarak, Happy Independence Day, Happy Republic Day, Holi ke rang aapke jeevan ko rangmay banaaye, Baisakhi ki lakh lakh badhaaiyan, Iniya pongal Nalvazhthukkal ( Happy Pongal in tamil), Ganapati Bappa Morya, Ala re ala, govinda ala, Happy Onam, Happy Rakshabandhan, Merry Christmas.......The limited space on this blog is not at all sufficient to quote all the wishes and occasions.....!! So many occasions..!!! So many festivals...!!! So many wishes ....!! So many blessings...!!! What a colourful country we have...!!!
Our Gen Y too has its own set of occasions and wishes.... As per the calender months- The festival of Love- Happy Valentines Day, Happy Mother's day, happy father's day, Happy Family Day (May 15), Happy Rose day, Happy Friendship day....and many more...!!! Must say....The card companies survive on all these...!!!
Another concept which I disagree with is- Only elders can bless young ones. Isin't blessing something which comes straight from the heart..?? Is it wrong if a younger individual blesses an elder-'May God bless you'- with a true and clean heart..??? Dua woh lagti hai jo dil se di jaati hai..!! Ab ye badein choton ko de ya chotein badon ko- It does not matter. Dua dua hi rehti hai- badein de ya chotein. Bas, woh dil se aani chahiye. :-)
There is one special wish which makes every person happy ( irrespective of their ages), which the person recieves once in a year. Hippy, Huppy, Happy Birthday..:-) Some recieve it with bang (birthday bumps); some recieve it with a surprise birthday party; most of us recieve it with cakes smeared all over our faces. Some keep recieving it from many people throughout the day; some recieve it from certain special people every ten minutes, thus making the entire day very special..:-) Some recieve it from certain people whom they have not spoken to since ages..!!! One "Happy Birthday" wish erases the gap of those silent years. .!!!
Every 'Happy Birthday' wish coming straight from the heart adds an extra year to the birthday baby's lifespan..:-)
All said and done; irrespective of the language, the occasion or the demographic details of the person giving the wishes- Every wish coming straight from a true heart with a goodwill brings bliss, making us happy from inside..:-)
Then, what are we waiting for..??? let all of us wish ourselves- A CHEERFUL SMILE MOMENT..:-)
SMILE PLEASE...:-) :-) :-) SAY CHEERS..:-)
